It’s one of the most common questions I hear: “Are you a psychic or a medium? What’s the difference?” Most people use the words interchangeably, and that’s completely understandable. But they actually describe two quite different things — and knowing the difference helps you book the right kind of reading for what you need.
What Is a Psychic?
A psychic is someone who tunes into your energy — the energy of a living person — to gain insight about your life. They might pick up on your emotions, your current circumstances, your relationships, or the direction things are heading.
Think of a psychic reading as a conversation about you and your life. Some psychics use tools like tarot cards, crystals, or runes to help focus their intuition. Others work purely with their senses — what they see, feel, hear, or simply “know.”
A psychic reading is often sought by people looking for clarity about a relationship, a career decision, or a crossroads in their life. The guidance comes from reading your energy, not from communicating with anyone who has passed away.
What Is a Medium?
A medium does something different. A medium acts as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit world, communicating with people who have died. The word “medium” itself comes from the Latin word for “middle” — because the medium stands in the middle, relaying messages between two worlds.
During a mediumship reading, I connect with your loved ones in spirit and relay specific evidence that they’re present — names, descriptions, personality traits, shared memories, and personal details that confirm who they are. The purpose is to offer comfort, healing, and the reassurance that the people you’ve lost are still connected to you.
There’s a widely used phrase in this field: “All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.” That’s because mediumship requires psychic sensitivity plus the specific ability to perceive and interpret communication from those in the spirit world.
What Do I Do?
I work as both a psychic and a medium. Many of my readings naturally blend the two — your loved one in spirit might come through with a message, and within that message there’s guidance about your current life situation. It’s not always neatly separated, and that’s actually a good thing.
When you book with me, I’ll ask what you’re hoping to get from the session so I can focus my energy in the right direction. If you’re primarily looking to connect with someone who’s passed, I’ll work as a medium. If you want guidance and insight about your life, I’ll focus on psychic work. And if you want a bit of both, that’s absolutely fine too.
Which Type of Reading Is Right for You?
If you’re grieving and want to know that your loved one is okay, or you’re hoping to hear from someone specific, a mediumship reading is what you’re looking for.
If you’re at a crossroads, feeling stuck, or wanting insight into a relationship, career, or life decision, a psychic reading will serve you better.
